A Guide to Using Our Winter Car Care Products

Car washing in winter requires making some alterations to your car wash to avoid freezing water and icy conditions. You must also adjust the types of products you sell in your waiting area or vending machines. 

For instance, no one will be interested in buying personal cooling and misting fans in winter. Instead, you want items that appeal to customers who want winter car accessories, such as all-weather floor mats. 

While most wintertime products, items, and accessories should be self-explanatory, we will do a quick review of our winter car accessories and car wash products. You can use this information to help train your new employees you bring on for the winter season.

Tankless Water Heaters

You need to prevent water from freezing when it is flowing through your wash equipment. You will want a tankless water heater to create plenty of hot water on demand.  

Since you only need hot water when it gets below freezing, it makes more sense to invest in a tankless heater than a tank-type. In addition, tank-type heaters cannot keep up with the hot water demands of car washes, especially on busy days when customers are lined up around the block.

To Use: Once your tankless heater is installed, you just turn on the hot water to create as much hot water as you need. 

Aluminized Steel Radiant Tube Heaters

Other essential items you need for car washing in the winter are radiant tube heaters. These heaters are installed at the entrance and exit of wash bays and tunnels. They help prevent cold air from entering the bays and tunnels.

They also generate enough heat to keep bays and tunnels above freezing. Additionally, they can dry up excess water and prevent it from freezing into ice.

To Use: After the heaters are installed, set your heaters to turn on when the temperature dips below a preset temperature. 

Snow Shovels

Snow shovels are not only needed at your car wash but should be stocked as an essential winter car accessory. You want to encourage your customers to have an emergency winter kit in their trunks, and a snow shovel is an essential component of that kit.

To Use: Carefully bend at the knees and move small amounts of snow to avoid hurting your back.

Lock De-Icer

Lock de-icer is another must-have winter car care item. You can install de-icer after washing vehicles to help prevent the locks from freezing. You can also sell de-icer to your customers.

To Use: Insert the end of the de-icer into the lock to release the de-icer solution into the lock. 

All-Weather Floor Mats

All-weather floor mats are perfect for protecting the carpeting in your customers’ vehicles. There are two car mats per pack.

To Use: You can assist customers by installing all-weather car mats in their vehicles. Make sure to vacuum the vehicle first before installing the mats.

Wiper Blades

Some of the best car accessories for winter are wiper blades. Old wiper blades can freeze to windshields, and the rubber part of the blade gets ripped and torn off. Make sure to stock a range of different sizes to accommodate different vehicles.

To Use: Follow the instructions inside the wiper blade package. Changing wiper blades is relatively easy. Offering to do so for your customers helps build customer loyalty and repeat business. 

Emergency Hammer

This is another essential item you want your customers to carry in their vehicles as part of the winter emergency kits. An emergency hammer can cut through seat belts and break windows in an accident or emergency where the seat belts won’t release, or the doors and windows won’t open.

To Use: Only use in emergency situations. Keep the emergency hammer in a glove box or center console in the vehicle where it can be easily accessible.
